Tools and triggers

  • Search the web

    PERPLEXITY_SEARCH

Searches the web and returns ranked results with their titles, URLs, snippets and dates.read-only

  • Ask Sonar

    PERPLEXITY_CREATE_CHAT_COMPLETION

Answers a question with a Sonar model that searches the web, and returns a chat completion with the answer, its citations and the search results used.read-only

  • Run the agent

    PERPLEXITY_CREATE_AGENT_RESPONSE

Runs Perplexity's Agent API on the given input, with a model from one of several providers (List models) or an effort level. Effort levels search the web on their own; `high` does deep research across many sources. With a model, set `web_search` to let it search. Set `background` for long runs.

  • Get an agent response

    PERPLEXITY_RETRIEVE_AGENT_RESPONSE

Returns an agent response by its ID, with its status and, when done, its output.read-only

  • List models

    PERPLEXITY_LIST_MODELS

Lists the model IDs the Agent API accepts.read-only

Connect via MCP

Create an MCP server for Perplexity in the dashboard, then add its URL to your client. This is the Claude Code command; the client guide has the others.

terminal
claude mcp add --transport http perplexity \
  "https://www.prompt-tm.com/mcp/<server id>?user_id=<your user>" \
  --header "x-api-key: ptm_…"

Connect via REST

Run a tool with one request. The response is { data, error, successful, log_id } for every tool.

terminal
curl -X POST https://www.prompt-tm.com/api/v3/tools/execute/PERPLEXITY_SEARCH \
  -H "x-api-key: $PROMPT_TM_KEY" -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "user_id": "alice", "arguments": {} }'
